Horticulture
Bringing the community into the centre, volunteers will be involved with the 2 internal garden areas and the counselling garden of the Centre. They will work on these areas during opening hours to allow the patients and public to become involved. Volunteers will plan and manage the planting of the Genesis rose, trees and shrubs, establishing borders and other garden features, clearing, weeding, pruning and renovating overgrown areas, as well as assisting in the provision of information to visitors and the prevention of damage.
Exercise Area
Volunteers will provide support and assistance within the exercise area and exercise classes out in the community. Working with the centre’s dieticians and doctors they will help with one-on-one educational fitness programs for patients and ex-patients. Our goal is to promote a health and fitness program for individuals through realistic goal setting and education. There are many opportunities to assist here; organising refreshments, assisting with exercise programmes, providing information on equipment usage plus lifestyle management.
Community Partnerships
The Genesis Appeal has committed partnerships with the following organisations who will be working with us to recruit volunteers. We will register and process volunteer applications including references, CRB checks and skill assessments before authorising any volunteer to start within the centre.
- Manchester University Student Volunteers
- Manchester Metropolitan University
